Sherlock Holmes Magnifying Glass Enhance Your Ability To See
I found my grandpa's Sherlock Holmes magnifying glass the other day. It brought back a flood of memories of when I was a child. I can clearly remember how playing with fire was fun and exciting. Little did I realize back then just how dangerous it was. We used to take our grandpa's magnifier outside on a sunny day to burn leaves and paper.
Setting things alight was so much fun and our imaginations took us to new heights. We did not of course think we would destroy a corn field in the process. Just by concentrating the sun's light onto a leaf or a piece of paper and even dare I say your hand, was a thrill and sent us in spats of laughter.
I never really gave it the time to day to find out a bit more about the humble magnifying glass. So I asked around and was told that it was written about as far as 1021. How to magnify something would greatly depend on where you hold the lends in relation to the object. The closer you hold it to let's say a word, the less magnification happens. The further away it is held you get a larger looking image.
There are a few ways to obtain your magnification. They say that you must hold the lens close to an eye and move towards an object and as you move your head with the lens then the object starts enlarging. Or another way can be to hold the lens close to the object and with your hand start adjusting the length back and forth to get to the desired enlargement.
The actual workings behind it is extremely technical and as such, I will not dare to go into detail, suffice to in layman's terms - light passes through the lens and at the same time the speed also changes. By passing through the lens light bends and it makes any object behind it look bigger.
How it actually works is when light passes through the lens, then it's speed also changes. This action bends the light whereby making the object look larger (because only the light from a small area is focused). The framed lens is usually mounted to a stand and keeping the lens at the right distance from the table, and therefore at the right distance from the object on the table. Some magnifying glasses are foldable (from the handle or stand).
The most popular name asked for by people is the Sherlock Holmes magnifying glass and it is sold with focal length of 25cm and would be labeled as a 2x magnifier.
